FROM THE CONSISTORY OR COUNCIL

We welcome all visitors worshiping with us today. May God’s name be exalted as we worship together. The order of our worship service is printed on the back of the bulletin.

The work of Classis West this past Wednesday was routine. Due to the meeting of Classis, Rev. Engelsma and our pastor will be exchanging pulpits this morning. We welcome Rev. Engelsma to our pulpit and fellowship.

The public confessions of faith of Grace Huizenga, Gys Huizenga, Alexa Meyer, Marcus Van Engen, and Noah Waldner will take place during the evening service today. We pray God may bless and give them the grace to perform the good works that glorify His name.

Shaylee Lynn, daughter of Joel and Linette Mouw, and Darren Luke, son of Aaron and Kristen De Jong, are scheduled to be baptized next Sunday during the morning service.

The membership papers of Stephen Boonstra have been transferred to Loveland PRC at his request. We commend him to the care of our sister congregation.

From the Evangelism committee: We encourage each family & high school/college aged adult to take a free copy of the book “Be Ye Holy” which can be found on the tables in the narthex. Take one for a friend! As you read this book, heed the Biblical commandment: “Be ye holy; for I am holy”.

 

CHURCH CALENDAR

Today: The Young Peoples’ Society will meet at 11:15. We will discuss Hebrews 11:5-6, Genesis 5:18-24, and Jude 1:14- 15.

Monday: The deacons will meet at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Council at 8:00.

Tuesday: Morning classes in Bible History (Grades 1–7): Review of Lessons 1-5.

Wednesday: Wealth will meet at 9:45 in Hull PRC to study Lesson 6. Hazel Andringa, Gloria Van Bemmel, and Marcia Mantel have lunch. Kandace Heynen is the upstairs helper, and Kim De Jager is the nursery helper.

Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School’s regular monthly Board meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, at school.

Young people, the corn maze activity will be held Monday, October 3. The rain date will be Friday, October 7. Please meet at Pumpkins on Garfield at 7:00 pm. Each young person needs to bring $7 to cover the cost of the corn maze and bonfire. There will be a bonfire afterwards also at Pumpkins on Garfield. Young people with the last names A-K please bring a 2-liter of pop, and young people with the last names L-Z please bring a snack.

The Young People’s Society of Doon PRC invites the young people to their annual Survival Run to be held on Friday, October 7. We will start from church at 7:00 p.m.

The Association for Protestant Education in Sioux Falls invites you to our annual lecture on Friday. October 14, at the Heritage Protestant Reformed Church at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Engelsma will speak on the topic “A Covenant School: How the Covenant Shapes Every Aspect of the Christian School.”

The 2016 Fall Ladies’ League will be held at Heritage PRC on Tuesday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m.  Rev. Brummel will speak on the timely topic of “Christian Discretion in the Year of the Election.” All ladies are welcome to attend for a night of fellowship. Refreshments will be served after the speech.

2016 Teachers’ Convention: All retired and prospective teachers are invited to attend the Protestant Reformed Teachers’ Convention to be held this year in Dyer, IN, on Thursday, October 20, and Friday, October 21. Were the reformers active in mission work? How did the doctrine of the Reformation affect their zeal for missions? What principles can we learn to guide our work? To what countries did they send missionaries? For the answers to these and other significant questions, join us for the annual fall lecture sponsored by the Reformed Witness Committee to be held on Friday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the B.J. Haan Auditorium of Dordt College. Rev. Allen Brummel will speak on the topic “The Reformation’s Zeal for Missions.”

The fall meeting of the Parents’ Circle of Trinity Christian High School will be the evening of Monday, October 24. For our program this year, Rev. Engelsma will be addressing the topic of the Christian school as a liberal arts institution. Members, new members, and guests are all welcome to join us.

Trinity’s Fall Auction will be held on November 18. There will be a supper and an auction to follow. Friends and supporters of our school, high school age and older, are invited to join us for an evening of fun and fellowship.

On October 28 Hope PRC Redlands will host a Reformation Day themed lecture by Rev. Huizinga titled “God is God!: The Heartbeat of the (Protestant) Reformed Faith.” This lecture will be live streamed at 7:30 p.m. Pacific time. “Is God a mere man who lets us choose how we will worship him, what laws will govern us, and if we want to be saved? Or is God God so His sovereign will determines our worship, life, and salvation?”
